HARDY’s new single, “McArthur,” brings together Tim McGraw, Eric Church and Morgan Wallen for a multigenerational tale of one family’s legacy and their struggle to preserve it. HARDY says when he first thought of inviting other artists to join him, he decided to aim very, very high.
“That song is crazy. I wrote that on a, I don’t even know, it was like on a Friday, and then like on Monday, I worked up the nerve to send it to Eric Church,” HARDY explains. “And [I] took the liberty of saying, ‘We should do this together. And include the biggest country artist in the world, Morgan Wallen.'”
HARDY says he couldn’t wait to tell his co-writers, Chase McGill, Josh Thompson and Jameson Rodgers, after Eric agreed to jump on the song.
“I remember like texting the songwriters on the side and being like, ‘Eric Church is in.’ And then I sent it to Morgan, and he was like, ‘I’m in.’ I was like, ‘Morgan’s in’ and the songwriters are like, ‘Oh my God, what is happening?'”
Adding Tim McGraw, who sings the first verse of the song, was the final piece of the puzzle. And now, HARDY says, there’s so much star power that he feels like an imposter on his own single.
“I know I wrote the song, but I also feel like … ‘What the hell, how did Iend up on this song?'” he says. “It’s a lineup of just absolute legends.”
